Born and raised in Portugal, Marcelo’s passion for food and culinary tradition runs deep. From an early age, he was enchanted by the bustling energy and vibrant flavors of his local mercado — the neighborhood market — where he would accompany his family on weekly visits, soaking in the sights, smells, and sounds that shaped his love for Portuguese cuisine.

Inspired by his roots and driven by a desire to share the authentic tastes of Portugal with the world, Marcelo’s journey eventually led him to Montclair. Together with his wife and partner, Carla, he set out to recreate the magic of his beloved mercado in a modern, welcoming space that honors tradition while embracing fresh ideas.
